Hostapalooza 2019

Description

Do you want to help create a sustainable, beautiful front entrance to our school? Do you have hostas or sedum you'd be willing to divide? Please join us for Hostapalooza 2019 on Saturday, Sept. 21 at 9am with your hosta or sedum to plant. We will have tools and snacks. You do not have to have kids at Burns Park to help, so please feel free to share this with any neighbors who are interested.

If the signup genius is full, please bring your plant anyway--we will find a place for it. If you would like to contribute a plant but can't come to the planting event, drop off your plant in a plastic bag or pot on the porch of 1115 Olivia Ave. If you don't have hostas or sedum but would like to buy one to plant, we would gratefully accept! If you would like to become a member of the Burns Park Grounds Committee and help with ongoing maintenance please email carolynloh@gmail.com.

To divide a hosta or sedum (will not hurt the plant this time of year), use a shovel to slice down through the plant through the leaves into the soil and bring up the entire section of plant, including the soil containing the roots. You can take up to about 1/3 of the plant and it will come back just fine in the spring. The plants we put in this year will be on the small side this coming spring, but over the next few years will grow to full size. They should live for many years and make our entrance beautiful for future generations of Burns Park students.

Thanks for your help and see you soon!
